Homes, a school, empty and now homes again
Great Stony Park is a unique collection of 61 residences within surroundings virtually unchanged since the Edwardian era.
Originally the site was built by Hackney Council as Hackney Cottage Homes with the intention to provide a safe environment to the deprived children in the council's ward.

Set around a ‘village green’ oval, a collection of cottage style homes makes the place quite unique as it remains largely intact from the original construction.

Completed in 1905, and with the first pupils admitted in 1908, Hackney Cottage Homes became Great Stony School

Luckily for us but no doubt sadly for the pupils and staff involved with the school, in 1997 Hackney Council sold the entire estate to Taywood Homes who redeveloped the school buildings into private residences and renamed the estate to Great Stony Park.

We have posted an essay on the history of what we now know as Great Stony Park, written by the late Mr Ron Barnes. Headteacher, Great Stony School - 1964 - 1988. You can read that here.
